INNOVAZIONE NEL DESERTO
Sorella di Tjunkiya Napaltjarri, Wintjiya è nata a Malparingya. Prima di trasferirsi a Kintore dove vive tuttora, ha trascorso un periodo a Haasts Bluff. Nel 1994 ha partecipato al progetto: 'Kintore e Haasts Bluff' che ha segnato l'inizio della sua carriera. Ora invece dipinge esclusivamente per la comunità di Papunya.1 Il legame tra le due sorelle è stretto e assieme hanno realizzato diverse opere.2 Dalla metà degli anni novanta, le opere di Tjunkiya sono state esposte in oltre trenta mostre collettive, tra cui, nel 2000, nell'importante “Papunya Tula 'Genesis and Genius”, organizzata dalla galleria statale d'arte di New South Wales. 1Also known as the Minyma Tjukurrpa Project, it comprised of a series of workshops designed to support womens painting.
