LORNA FENCER NAPURRULA
TITLE: YARLA (YAM) DREAMING
SIZE: 125 cm X 66 cm
MEDIUM: acrylic on canvas
YEAR PRODUCED: 2006
PROVENANCE: 21st Street Aboriginal Art
This is a truly special work by a master of Australian Aboriginal painting. Lorna Fencer has become a legend for her breaking down of barriers. There are no laws in art, and she broke away from the dot work and formed a style of her own. A male artist that is comparable to Lorna would be Michael Tjagamarra Nelson, a Western Desert artist. He too paints fresh vivid works with liberal amounts of paint and often represents works linked to food gathering.
"The thickly applied paints and free expressionist nature make Lorna Fencer Napurrula's art representative of the newer styles being practiced by Lajamanu artists" - Susan McCulloch
This painting is rather important as it is one of the last paintings produced by Lorna. The painting was commissioned from the artists in mid November, just a few weeks before her sad death. A certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist including fourteen photographs of Lorna completing the work will be forwarded with the painting.
Yam is a spice which is found not just in Australia, but also in Africa, Asia and Latin America. They are very much like potatoes. It is known as Yarla amongst many aboriginal languages.
This top work would be suitable for all investors, private and corporate, and collectors of fine art. This painting will be couriered in a safe and sturdy postal tube to avoid any damage of the artwork whilst in transit.
