Balgo, is one of the most isolated settlements in the Western Desert. During the wet season, it can be isolated for months, and during the scorching summer, the land is dry and unforgiving. Balgo art, as it's inspiration has law and culture (Julururu), and Brandy is a senior law man. Painting in Balgo, in the modern sense only really kicked off in 1983.
Since the 70's, Balgo has had close ties with the other settlements in the Central and Western Desert, especially Papunya. The influence from Papunya in the composition and style of paintings is clear, yet Balgo artists choose a much brighter, stronger, and greater array of colors.
This is a fine and typical example of of Brandy's paintings. This linear composition is comprised of fine dotting run together to create lines, broadly symmetrical, create a subtle sense of movement.
This painting will be couriered in a safe and sturdy postal tube to avoid any damage of the artwork whilst in transit.
