This traditional painting clearly shows Michelle Possum's Papunya/Anmatjira origins. She has shown a women's ceremony executed in the style of a ceremonial ground painting.
The roundels are ceremonial meeting places where women's dancing takes place. The area is prepared by constructing a sacred circular design on the ground. The ceremonial singing and dancing is performed at this place. The striped triangular shapes represent the red ochre body paint designs worn in the ceremony. The white lines connecting the circles are the paths to the ceremonial grounds. Ground and body patterns such as this are understood to have been shown to the first humans by the spirit ancestors in the dreamtime creation period. This symbolic painting is a rare example of this subject by the artist.

This painting will be couriered in a safe and sturdy postal tube to avoid any damage of the artwork whilst in transit.
