International Senior Artists
Sheila is one of the most critically acclaimed of the Yuendumu artist. Since 1985, Sheila has exhibited at over forty important exhibitions both in Australia, the U.S.A. and in the U.K. Her works are vibrant and very intricate. Her Dreamings include, Ngarlkirdi (Witchetty Grub), Yiwarra (Milky Way), Karntajarra (Two Women). 'Song Lines Aboriginal Art' recently commissioned Paddy Sims to make a large collaborative canvas for a European museum exhibition. Paddy Japaljarri Sims, assisted by Paddy Japaljarri Stewart and Sheila Napaljarri Brown created a large painting from the Milky Way/Night Sky Dreaming cycle. Note that the painting currently in stock in Aboriginal-Works is of the same subject. As a Napaljarri, the female skin name equivalent of Japaljarri, Sheila often paints the women's aspect of this story, depicting the women who gather to sing and dance for young men's initiation ceremonies, and painting the stars and witi poles, which are also represented in the work available below.
Another Major Commission: 1991 Prof. H Antes, Berlin, commissioned a 7x 3m canvas by fourty two of Yuendumu's artists. The painting forms part of the 1993 European touring exhibition 'Aratjara - Australian Aboriginal Art' organised by Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfalen Dusseldorf, Germany.
